By accessing or using btusize.com, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy, which together govern your use of the site. The site is intended for adults making decisions about their own home, and is not directed at children.

What this site is

BTU Size is a free HVAC resource for homeowners. It offers calculators and tools, cost guides, brand comparisons, and troubleshooting help, supported by advertising. We are not an HVAC contractor. We do not install, service, repair, or sell equipment, and we do not provide quotes ourselves. Some pages have an optional form that can pass your details to a local contractor, which is covered below.

How to use the estimates

The calculators and guides are built and reviewed by people who work in the trade, and they follow the same standards a contractor uses. Even so, every result is an estimate for general guidance, based on the values you enter and on reasonable assumptions. A result cannot account for everything specific to your home, so it may not match the exact requirements, costs, or conditions a contractor would find on site.

For that reason, treat the site as a starting point rather than a final decision. A simplified online estimate, including our simplified Manual J, is not the same as a full ACCA Manual J load calculation worked up on site by a licensed HVAC contractor who measures your home and inspects your ductwork, so it does not replace that step or the contractor's judgment. Equipment sizing and installation, and any work involving gas, electrical, or refrigerant systems, must be designed, verified, and carried out by appropriately licensed professionals, and must follow the manufacturer's instructions and all local codes and permit requirements. Confirm any result with a qualified contractor before you buy equipment, commit to a size, or make a repair.

Disclaimer of warranties

The site and all of its content, calculators, and tools are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site or any result will be accurate, complete, current, reliable, uninterrupted, or error-free.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the site, its owner, and its contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, property damage, personal injury, or other loss arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the site, the calculators, or any information obtained through it, including any decision or action you take in reliance on a result or article.

You are solely responsible for any decision you make based on the site, and you should not rely on the site for any decision involving gas, electrical, or refrigerant systems, equipment sizing, or any matter affecting home or personal safety, which require a licensed professional.

Advertising, links, and contractor introductions

The site is supported by advertising and may link to third-party websites, products, and services. We do not endorse, and are not responsible for, any third-party advertiser, website, or content, and any dealings you have with an advertiser are between you and that advertiser.

If you choose to request a quote, we may share the information you provide with one or more independent local HVAC contractors so they can contact you. An introduction is not an endorsement. We do not employ, control, recommend, or independently verify the licensing, insurance, qualifications, pricing, or work of any contractor we introduce you to. Any quote, agreement, payment, or work is solely between you and the contractor, and you are responsible for checking a contractor's license, insurance, and references before hiring. We are not a party to, and are not liable for, any dispute, loss, injury, property damage, or unsatisfactory work that comes out of your dealings with a contractor or advertiser.

Information you submit

When you use a calculator or request a quote, you are responsible for the accuracy of what you enter, and you confirm you have the right to share it. You give us permission to use that information to run the site, produce your results, and, if you request a quote, to share your request with local contractors as described above. How we handle personal information is set out in our privacy policy.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the site for any unlawful purpose or in a way that breaks these terms.
• Copy, monitor, or harvest content with any bot, scraper, or other automated means without our written permission.
• Reverse engineer or try to extract the underlying logic of any calculator or tool.
• Try to gain unauthorized access to the site or any related systems.
• Interfere with, disrupt, or place an unreasonable load on the site.
• Submit false, misleading, or another person's information.

Content and intellectual property

The content on the site, including the text, articles, guides, graphics, design, and the calculators and tools, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by copyright and other laws. You may view and use the site for your own personal, non-commercial home purposes. You may not copy, republish, sell, redistribute, frame, scrape, or build derivative works from any part of the site, or use it for any commercial purpose, without our written permission.

Your responsibility for claims

You agree to defend and hold harmless the site, its owner, and its contributors from any claim, damage, loss, or expense, including reasonable legal fees, that comes out of your use of the site, your breach of these terms or any law, or any dispute between you and a contractor, advertiser, or other third party.

Availability and changes to the site

We may add, change, suspend, or remove any tool, page, or feature at any time, and we do not guarantee the site will always be available or uninterrupted. We may also update these terms from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of the page changes when we do, and continuing to use the site means you accept the current terms.
